She experiments with different writing strategies. The one I just read, Carol's Trinity, is told in the present tense, rather than the past. The Hot Dates series (first, second, third) had some development as wife and husband get deeper into the lifestyle. Again it's told from both points of view. I wasn't keen on the dangerous character element that so many authors feel the need to introduce.

Othello by William Shakespeare: A review

I posted this to GoodReads not too long ago.  Over there, I hid the spoilers, but I figure my readers here are more literary sorts who already know the plot.

I read "Othello" in high school and this is what I remember. So, Othello is this dashing African man serving in the Venetian military. Desdemona is a young woman from one of the most prominent families in Venice. She falls in love with Othello and marries him. And why not? He's strong, he's brave, he tells good stories. He's hot, I'm sure of it. (Just reading between the lines here, and my teacher said Shakespeare was bi, based on some stuff he wrote in the Sonnets.)

Some folks don't approve, though. Othello is subject to a lot of prejudice, and he's insecure inside. Othello gets jealous of Cassio, the cute young officer serving under him, when Desdemona has a friendly chat with him.

[Spoiler:
Desdemona probably would have liked to serve under Cassio, if you know what I mean. But they weren't screwing at all! It was all a lie made up by this Iago guy. But then Othello kills her anyway.]

I was so disappointed by the ending. But Shakespeare can write, so I give it four stars.

A French threesome

What do I like? My sexual paradigm

I've written that I hate foreplay and I hate intercourse. (If you haven't read those sister essays, please read them before reading this one.)

So, what do I like? I made a long list of sexual activities. I like doing most of these things. The list is not exhaustive, though. Use your imagination! If something seems sexual to you -- as long as it involves consenting adults -- it probably is. The point is, there are many kinds of sexual activities. If you are engaging in one or more of them, you are having sex. It's still sex even if you don't do intercourse/screwing.

So, that's the first rule: penile-vaginal intercourse is optional. You should do it if both partners want to do it. Since straight men, in my experience, want to do it every time they get in bed, that gives the woman an effective veto. If she doesn't want it, it doesn't happen. I hate intercourse

I hate intercourse.

Don't get me wrong. I love screwing. I love having part of my man inside me -- his beautiful penis in my pussy. I love the way he moves, making me feel good, making himself feel good. Sooner or later, we all have to get out of bed to go to work, care for family members, do chores, etc. So, in my limited time for sex, I can:

2. Have x orgasms from sexual activities that make me come, then deny The Boyfriend an orgasm and have y more orgasms in that time myself.

Now, most of the time, I'm a considerate and caring lover and go for option A. But sometimes, I get greedy and go for option B. "Gentrified: A Wife Seduced" by Kirsten McCurran (book review)

I've read a lot of cuckold fiction -- mostly short stories, a few novel-length works. Most of the novels seem to provide a scaffold on which to hang the sex scenes -- I read erotica, so I've certainly got nothing against sex scenes -- but not a lot of development. In her novel, McCurran takes the time she needs to develop her characters and their actions, and I think it pays off.

McCurran gives us a look into the thoughts of both Jess, a young wife and mother who has moved into a gentrifying district, and Winston, her handsome, black neighbor. Winston knows what he wants right from the beginning. Jess is unsure at each step; many of her thoughts end in question marks. This rings true for a man and a woman in their positions. (One thing that gives me pause, though, is that Winston sometimes thinks of Jess as "prey." Do men really think like that?) The other major characters are Kyle, Jess's husband, and Nicole, her best friend.

The story unfolds at a leisurely pace, with events deepening the relationships among the characters, yet with plenty of steamy sex along the way. I think any fan of cuckold erotica will find something to like here.
