A friend on GoodReads asked me what I like about the erotica author Kirsten McCurran.

What do I like about Kirsten McCurran?

The sex is hot, but that's true of all the top-rank cuckold/hotwife writers.

She experiments with different writing strategies. The one I just read, Carol's Trinity, is told in the present tense, rather than the past. Stephanie's Hotwife Seduction has the bull introduce cuckolding to the married couple (rather than having it be the husband's or the wife's idea), and the story is told from all three points of view.

The Hot Dates series (first, second, third) had some development as wife and husband get deeper into the lifestyle. Again it's told from both points of view. I wasn't keen on the dangerous character element that so many authors feel the need to introduce.

I'm not black or a man, but I think she gets black men right. When she has a black bull, she describes him as a real man with real emotions, not just a sex toy for the married couple to play with. That's true in Stephanie's Hotwife Seduction, Gentrified, and The Coach's Wife.

"Gentrified: A Wife Seduced" by Kirsten McCurran (book review)

I've read a lot of cuckold fiction -- mostly short stories, a few novel-length works. Most of the novels seem to provide a scaffold on which to hang the sex scenes -- I read erotica, so I've certainly got nothing against sex scenes -- but not a lot of development. In her novel, McCurran takes the time she needs to develop her characters and their actions, and I think it pays off.

McCurran gives us a look into the thoughts of both Jess, a young wife and mother who has moved into a gentrifying district, and Winston, her handsome, black neighbor. Winston knows what he wants right from the beginning. Jess is unsure at each step; many of her thoughts end in question marks. This rings true for a man and a woman in their positions. (One thing that gives me pause, though, is that Winston sometimes thinks of Jess as "prey." Do men really think like that?) The other major characters are Kyle, Jess's husband, and Nicole, her best friend.

The story unfolds at a leisurely pace, with events deepening the relationships among the characters, yet with plenty of steamy sex along the way. I think any fan of cuckold erotica will find something to like here.

She wanted, and I'm left wanting more

I know NewRyder's Strapon Log for posting beautiful pictures of women with strap-ons. Every once in a while, though, he posts a mini-essay or a story. The latest is She Wanted. It's a short snippet about Fiona, a character he's written about before. I love the descriptions of her want -- need, really -- as she's walking to meet a man. And I really love the descriptions of the two characters' nude bodies. I can picture them from just a few words.

Can't wait to read what happens next.

The Shower

Over at Taking it and Loving it, Whisper is back. He returns to his blog with a post called The Shower. It's a very hot account of an incident with his callipygian wife. I don't want to give too much away. Just go read it, then you can read my comment at the end to see what I liked about it.

Victory for readers of books on sexuality
